Japanese Slipper Cocktail Recipe

Japanese Slipper cocktail

Bright green, equal parts and invented in Melbourne. Jean-Paul Bourguignon first mixed the Japanese Slipper at Mietta's in 1984: Midori for the melon, Cointreau for the orange, fresh lemon to keep it sharp. You need a shaker, some ice and about two minutes.

Serves 2

Ingredients

  • Midori - 60ml (2 Squeezes)
  • Cointreau - 60ml (2 Squeezes)
  • Fresh lemon juice - 60ml (2 Squeezes)

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake.
  2. Fine strain into chilled martini glasses.
  3. Garnish with a maraschino cherry (or a honeydew melon ball).

Squeeze Tip

Squeeze fresh lemons. Midori and Cointreau are both sweet, so the lemon does the balancing, and bottled juice leaves the drink tasting like cordial. Put the glasses in the freezer while you shake. The drink goes in with no ice, so a cold glass is all that keeps it cold.
